PEG Farm and Nature Reserve describes itself as a “biodynamic” farm offering tours, a farm-to-table café, farm shop, camping facilities, and workshops on some of PEG farm’s best practices. The 108-acre property, which is located in St. Joseph, Barbados, combines agrotourism with an ecological focus and food tourism, all geared toward health and wellness. PEG is an acronym for People, Environment, Growth, and emanated out of Barbados native, Paul Bourne’s quest to overcome decades of back pain. His search led him to experts in holistic health and organic and sustainable agriculture, who guided him in the creation of a multi-dimensional farm with crop and livestock production and allied activities.
The farm features free-range livestock (cattle, pigs, chicken), medicinal herb garden, fruit orchard, other food production, and forested area. The tour of the farm and nature reserve schools visitors on the property’s biodynamic and permaculture principles, which advocate restorative agricultural practices for improved ecological outcomes. Visitors also enjoy the tranquil setting and stunning views of the coastline from this hilltop retreat.
The farm’s produce becomes the ingredients for PEG’s farm-to-table restaurant, Chrysalis Café, which serves innovative and nutritious dishes using fresh locally grown food. The culinary experience is further complemented by panoramic views of the beautiful property. After dining, interested visitors can receive a map of the property to do a self-guided tour.
